Trouble with filtering through the filter part and leakage
I bought the Grayl Geopress Purifier from Amazon. I read the reviews from other customers and like what I read. When I received it I had trouble trying to filter the water through the filter part instead it was coming out between the containers as I put pressure down. I was disappointed, so I reread the instructions and tried several times. I'm 70 years old, thought I was going to have to return this but I kept trying. First I read others who had this problem of leakage, but I found that after I remove the filter, check it for any damages, God forbid since its made in USA, didn't see any. So tried again, this time made sure the filter was put in correctly,( I assume I didn't do that right the other times), and urea. It was working as I took my time to allow the water filter through the filter. You must make sure your filter is turn completely til you feel a click in. I use a rubber gripper to help me. I'm not that strong to twist things on and off. I hope this helps others. Btw I'm buying another.😉

Filter Fails after filtering less than 10L of fresh water
I ended up purchasing both an Ultralight and Geopress from Amazon with the intention of using the bottles on the Otter Trail Hike in South Africa from 14 November 2019 to 18 November 2019 and on future travels. The filters worked fine on day 1 and day 2 of the hike, but by the 3rd day they were almost impossible to press. By the 3rd day we had to resort to sitting on the bottles to use our full body weight to get any water through and by the 5th day the bottles were useless and we were forced to drink unfiltered water. I was excited about the Grayl products but I was so disappointed to find out that both filters failed after filtering less than 10 liters of only slightly tinted water. This is well below the claimed volume of 250L and 350L for each product. I understand that Grayl says that only the clearest water should be used to ensure that the lifespan of the filters are reached. I therefore made every effort to filter only clear water. Most of the 10L of water that we filtered was the water that the National Park recommended for drinking purposes so it was by no means dirty at all.I spent a lot of money on these products with the intention of using them on future travels and with the intention of filtering the claimed volume to make my purchase worth the money I spent. After filtering less than 10L of only slightly tinted drinkable water, I now have two completely useless bottles that I am unable to use. I have no faith in purchasing filter replacements because of my experience on the hike.I request that Grayl refunds the cost $224.49 that I have incurred as the products have severely under-performed and are now useless to me.Please see the attached images of my negative experience.

I drank tainted bathroom water all over Southeast Asia for 2 months. IT WORKS!
Amazing. Still got explosive 8 day diarrhea from Vietnam but I'm positive it was from contaminated fresh veggies cause they don't was their hands at all before they touch them. We both filled up in dirty bathroom sink water all over Southeast Asia for 2 months and were fine. But that last meal in Vietnam..... Don't eat fresh veggies!!! Cooked food only! Trust me. I'm in the hospital writing this review.

Always safe now with my Grayl.
This will be my new go to travel water bottle. I’ll be section hiking the AT this month and can’t wait to get some dirty water in this. I have a Berkey water filter system at home. After what the city of Flint did to its citizens, I take no chances with mine and my families water. Grayl now covers our travel water too.Update- used this all over the Smokey Mountains. Perfectly clean water in 8-10 seconds. Love this product and think I converted some hikers.

Very hard to separate the top from the bottom piece. Needs some sort of gripper or something
Very expensive and not very user friendly. Concept is good but using it on regular basis gets very annoying. So difficult to fill because the two pieces are so hard to separate due to suction and no handhold. Maybe the size is too wide for women’s hands too and needs to be narrower and taller instead.

THE BEST SINCE THE GRAYL LEGEND...
this is the best since the grayl legend.. the ultralight was a bad design and prone to contamination. thats why the grayl legend was the best until now.. i cant press it in 9 seconds though, but still a lot faster than the legend..easy cleanup no hidden crevices unlike the grayl legend. by far the best grayl has to offer..grayl customer service is top notch.. the lids on my grayl legend failed, they were kind enough to send me replacement lids along with 3 backup plastic lids in case the stainless lids fail once more..

Great Tasting Filtered Water!
I am not a backpacker or hiker and did not purchase this for use in any lakes or rivers or even outside the country . I purchased this to filter my city tap water to filter out any potential particulates, chemicals and/or heavy metals. My wife and I drink about around a gallon of water everyday. We would get bottles of Zephyrhills and go through 14 or more water bottles daily between us. I was looking for an alternative to save time, money and eliminate plastic water bottle waste. I purchased this product and have used it over the past week filtering water in the GRAYL and pouring it into gallon jugs which are then convenient to transfer to my insulated stainless steel water bottle of choice as needed throughout the day. The water tastes great and I cannot taste any difference from the bottled Zephyhills water I have been buying and drinking for years. I have not tested the water after being filtered but I am incredibly happy with the convenience and taste. Thank you!

Do not use if you need reliable water
Do not use this product if your going anywhere where you need a reliable water supply. The first issue is that it's poorly designed so the clean water storage unit wants to slip out of the casing. Secondly, in just the second use I dropped the bottle from about 2 feet onto dirt. The outer shell cracked, leaking water and rendering the unit unusable. This was a small fall onto dirt. Clearly very poor construction.

(Almost) The Holy Grayl
Regarding the review complaining about the tape on the handle - it's there by design! The bottle is secured to the packaging it comes in with a cable tie. The tape is there to prevent the tie from rubbing on the handle causing wear. Why 4 stars though? It's because the design, while good, could still be improved. The plunging action is fine, it's the removal of the inner bottle from the outer which is the hard part. Basically, you are trying to grip a wide diameter plastic tube (the outer part) and pull up on another part with limited gripping areas (the inner part). They have helped the grip on the outer part by adding some grippy material, however this is only on one side of the bottle; it really needs to be on both sides. Then there's the inner / top part. It's hard to describe, but basically it's hard to get an effective grip on it due to its shape, size and design. You can try pulling on the handle part, but you're pulling off-centre and potentially risking breaking it (it wouldn't happen for a while, but it's bound to happen eventually given the forces involved). There are a few rubberised areas but they're low down on the lid (need long fingers or big hands) and have plastic parts above them with slightly "sharp" edges, so if you try pulling up from these rubber parts it can potentially be quite sore on the fingers. I suspect the separation of the parts might get easier over time (like an aeropress) and maybe I just need to find the right technique, but I also think this is something which can be improved on by design. Also, for anyone wondering about the size - if you happen to have a 1L Nalgene bottle, it's about the same diameter but a bit taller. Also, the large part of the top lid can be unscrewed for a faster pour / cleaning. If you are cleaning it with soapy water you'll need to unscrew the filter first though. Again, the filter is quite a large diameter and needs to be unscrewed by hand, so if you have small hands I can see this being difficult.Aside from these few gripes, it is a solid product which will undoubtedly last for years, if not decades.

Still a way to go design wise.
Expensive, messy as the dirty water splashes up the sides as you filter and hard to press down. Come on guys improve the design as it still needs work as many people are pointing out - we need you as others don't filter out for virus.

New or not?
My second Grayl bottle after the Grayl Ultralight. The performance is again fantastic with major improvements over the previous model. The only issue I have is that my bottle was sold as new, but for whatever reason there is some black tape on the handle. That makes it look like the product has already been repaired due to some crack in the material.I don't know if the case is that the bottle has already been used before or if it's just terrible quality control, but it shouldn't have been branded as new.

Einfach super

My perfect Travelmate
I bought the Grayl Water Purifier (710 ml) for my cuba and ecuador adventure. He never let me down! Some Tap Waters tasted chlorified and others strongly like minerals but I never got sick. For day trips I pre filtered the water for another bottle, thus the capacity of 710 ml still was a lot of work but it is the best fit for size and water volume. The bottle is already huge. I never took it into my boarding luggage, I would be interested if it is possible or if they suspend the filter. I never used it for a lake or river, but this is my next test in summer. However I saved a lot of money for plastic water bottles and had a positive impact against plastic pollution.
