I was nervous about purchasing this due to the reviews, but my gate did not come broken! It was nicely packaged in bubble wrap and styrofoam on all sides. There is one part at the top of the door that looks loose, like it might come apart at any moment (see photo). If it does break it would be a very easy fix with wood glue. You will also need a drill to install the locks for the door. The smell did not bother me and I did not find it too heavy.I have a gentle and obedient dog that does not jump or attempt to overcome physical barriers in any way. I needed to block off my kitchen to prevent fur in our food, to prevent my kids from feeding her table scraps, and to prevent her from eating toxic foods that is accidentally dropped. My opening is 88 inches wide. We will only need the gate up when I'm cooking or when we are eating. I needed a gate that was extra wide, white, stylish, affordable, freestanding, and with a door and this gate fits the bill! I think it's the only gate I could find that did.

We have 2 small dogs(Jack Russell and Maltipoo). Now that it is raining, they like the carpets for doing their outside business. We did have a fixed fence separating our carpeted areas from hard surface, but just remodeled this summer and took it out. All was great until this week w/rain. I didn’t want to drill into the wood/walls again and in searching Amazon I found this. I see negative reviews due to damage, but I wanted a white large barrier and took a risk. Well, guess what...nothing broken! I fully expected to find something broken, but mine arrived in perfect shape and it was exactly, as in exactly what I wanted. It is heavy enough to stand on its own, the gate going through this barrier is easy to use and stays secure. It doesn’t look bad, and when the rainy season is over, I will fold this up and bring it back when needed. Perfect! It looks pretty good as well. I do have mine in a “z” pattern and it is secure without feeling like it wants to fall over. I do believe it is a crap shoot whether or not this is delivered damaged..maybe I was one of the lucky ones?

Works great because it’s wider than my opening so it’s not fully stretched across from side to side , which prevented my 68 pound pup from attempting to jump over.

I have doggie day care and it has lasted! Love this. I did have to secure gate a tad more but for quality and appearance not complaining!

This is one awesome gate we are very very pleased with it very good quality very easy to use and maneuver definitely recommend

Ends are cracked from them installing hinges I suspect
