Used strings. Don't buy.

My d string and a string show signs of use. String makers are playing Amazon customer by selling slightly used strings. Here you can see my brand new set which arrived today has a brown d string like someone already sweat all over it.My a string was bent seemingly at the bridge and scroll areas of the string. Don't buy these strings on Amazon.

Good strings

Clear vibrant tone. Very little break in

Great set!

Love all of the strings except the A. The a string looked like it had not been wound correctly and produced a very tiny tone whit h I hated. Overall, I think Tziganes are a great choice!

Big sound and stable pitch, though your mileage may vary

I've tried Larsen Tziganes on my two violins and got varied impressions on the different instruments. In both cases, I got a big sound, and they held pitch well over many hours of playing. In short, they're good, but not for everyone. With the Tziganes on my "better" instrument a beat-up 1860's(?) French(?) violin, the sound was kind of honky under my ear, though stable for months on end. The E kept on whistling; an old E from the Obligato set was easier for me to manage with Tziganes on the other strings. To me ear, the sound was never warm or complex as the Pirastro Obligatos I've used for several years. On the positive side, there was the big sound, and the low string tension made the Tziganes easier to tune slip-free than the Obligatos. I've since returned to a full Obligato set.On my "travelling" violin, a 1970s Meisel previously strung with Thomastik Dominants, I am definitely happier with the Tziganes. Fingering is easier than the Dominants, and there seems to be more warmth and personality in the sound. I'm keeping the Tziganes on that instrument.

Five Stars

My favorite set of strings. Also, the best E string on the planet, in my opinion.
