Instructions on every page!
Most other workbooks just looked like pages of problems. And so many that it's overwhelming for kids to pick up. This book explains exactly how they want you to do it at the top. This is enough for motivated kids to do it on their own, or parents to quickly understand the point and steps of the lesson. The lessons are short, but with the perfect amount of practice without being overwhelming. There are A LOT of topics in this book. It's laid out in logic order. The first section is all fractions, which I think will end up being the hardest section for my student. But it's broken up by part so she's tacked most of it with ease. I know it was the hardest topic for me!There are 60 pages to work on, and one per day is very reasonable. So 2 months at 7 days a week, or 3 months at 5 days per week.It contains (counts are approximate)An answer keyFractions - 14 pages of adding, comparing, subtracting, multiplying, dividing. Going from mixed to improper.Percents & fractions, ratios, and decimals - 8 pagesDecimal math - 6 pages of adding, comparing, subtracting, multiplying, dividing.GCF - 1 pageExponents - 1 pageBeginning equations and algebra - lots of pages, including the properties and OoOEstimation and roundingGeometry - area, surface area, volume - 4 pagesProbability - 1 pageNegative numbers, number line and x-y grid- 9 pages, includingThe pages can be torn out on the perforation. We are punching holes and putting in a binder as we finish. What I would change:1. I wish there was a refresher section on simplifying fractions, at the beginning,, since many skills are built on that. I'm going to move the GCF page up to help with this.2. I wish each problem had more room to work. If I need to find a common denominator before adding fractions, I need PLENTY of room to write like x3=12/x3=15 one one side and x7=7/x7=14 on the other. kids HATE copying fractions to a blank sheet, so providing room to do all the scrunching in of steps would be amazing. That way we can see the process is correct - not just the answer.Definitely recommend

math to the point!
Sixth grade math is actually quite straightforward and this Math Basics book kept it plain and simple! On a large whiteboard, I "teach" a lesson with the examples given on the page and then my daughter works through each problem (also on the whiteboard, as there is not space in the book for showing work). In my opinion, this is not a book for kids to work through on their own. There are opportunities for teaching the lesson to your child, and then your child getting the opportunity to practice the skill. We work through one page a day and it's enough to grasp the skills without overdoing it (as learners will see these skills again in the next math level - spiral learning!) All answers are provided in the back of the book.I homeschool both of my kids (and have taught public school for 12 years previous) and have tried a few different math programs (Go Math, Math Expressions, Singapore). We end up throwing out many of the pages due to redundancy or overcomplicating a skills. Really happy with Math basics and will keep using the other levels for my younger kids as well.

I do math just for fun
I always love math and just enjoyed doing it for fun and not for education. It keeps my brain going

older kids
It is challenging to find basic workbooks at a 6th grade level. This workbook is the best ever. Clear examples. Not too many problems per page. Covers all the "basic" skills. Especially valuable for a middle school student who doesn't love math but just needs the regular subjects covered. I have used with homeschooling and with tutoring others. Highly recommend.

Just what I was looking for!
It has examples along with the problems. This is the 3rd one I have bought this summer. you can't just give the child a page full of problems with no direction. He will be able to retain more and go back for refresher information while he works. We don't need to go online for understanding. Everything he needs is right there on the page as he works. Thank you

Simple and concise
I like that it has examples on every page to explain how to do the problem. It has about ten problems per page and then 1-2 "challenge" problems to apply the knowledge in a bit more difficult way. Those can be pretty hard and often we skip them! I use this as a summer review after the grade to keep the skills fresh.
