This is the story of Fiona’s little accident that will charm little readers ...
Show-and-tell was going to be a lot of fun! Even when Fiona was nestled all snug in her bed she was thinking about it. It would be the best time ever because Fiona and “her best friend, Felix, had built a volcano.” How good can it get? Next to the bed she had her Instant Lava ready to go, her little red shoes, her Hawaiian dress, and some awesome new undies with the shiny sun on them. The stars were twinkling through the window, but before you know it, Fiona was eating breakfast with her mama. Volcano, volcano, volcano! It was all she could talk about. “Did you use the bathroom, dear?” asked her Mama. Sure. Not really. No time.Fiona rushed off to join her friends on the bus. Surely, she thought, “I’ll have plenty of time to run to the bathroom at school when the bus pulls in.” Everyone was running late. Sure she could go. Not really. No time. Felix was on already there and was even wearing his green Mount Vesuvius ... duh ... like a hat. Everyone was raring to go in Miss B’s class because after all, it was show-and-tell day. Victor was up first with his goldfish act. That fish could even jump though a hoop, if you can believe that! And then there was Bethany with her ukulele. Gotta go, gotta go!This show-and-tell was taking way too long and so “Fiona waved her hand to go to the bathroom.” Of course it was occupied. She waited and waited and waited. “Volcano time!” Miss B. was ready for Fiona and Felix to show everyone how their volcano would erupt. In went that Instant Lava, in went the activator fluid, and ‘KA-BLAM!’ Everyone was totally amazed when they saw the glitter soaring up to the ceiling. AND “everyone saw Fiona have the accident.” Was everyone going to make fun of her? Would she ever be able to live this terrible day down? This is the story of Fiona’s little accident that will charm little readers. The day that was supposed to be one of the best ever, turned out to be the worst. Not to worry because best friends are what everyone needs when disaster strikes. Felix reassures Fiona, in a most delightful way I might add, that she would survive. I definitely like the way Miss B handled the situation, something that was a great comfort to Fiona. When you gotta go, you gotta go! Young children will certainly learn a few lessons from this delightfully charming tale. They will also learn how to make their own volcano from the step-by-step instructions (with visuals) on the end pages.Age Range: 5 - 8 yearsGrade Level: Kindergarten - 3ROSEMARY WELLS: Bunny Cakes Yoko Voyage to the Bunny Planet My Very First Mother Goose Max’s Bedtime Bunny Money (Library book).
