Works very well and I'm very happy with it
Works very well and I'm very happy with it.I'll address a couple of points that have been raised here and elsewhere in case it helps others:1. 'Clunky' software. No, it won't win prizes but it does what it needs to.2. Windows 10 - supplied software - RC-4&5_Conventional(V2.0) works OK (I had checked with Elitech before buying).3. When the device is plugged in to the PC it is not visible as a drive so cannot be explored. This is not an issue.4. Opening the battery compartment - use a £1 coin or similar to open/closeThere is an 'O' ring for waterproofing and this makes it a very tight fit.5. Inserting the battery - the battery needs to be inserted at an angle to go under the two small clips.6. Saving batches of data - first need to 'Upload Data' from the deviceThen 'Save Data' - you are prompted for a title. This data is then saved into a database called data.sdf in the programme folder. You can save multiple batches of data each with a different name7. Retrieving saved data - Use 'Inquiry Data' and it will allow you to select one of your saved data batches.8. Note that if you change your preferences, all data on the device, not saved data, will be wiped. It warns you first, so make sure you save your data first, if you want to keep it.9. For trial testing, set the interval to, say, 30 seconds so that you can get quick results to try out the features.10. 'Help' didn't work on Windows 10 (Windows 10 issue) but there is a file 'Help.pdf' in the programme folder.11. Accuracy - I found that it was within 0.2C of two other thermometers that I had. (Operating at ambient room temperature)

I ordered 2 of these. Saw such good reviews and thought they would be useful to record temperatures within my medical fridge. I have a treatment that is very sensitive to certain temperatures and records have to be taken regularly. Saw these and thought brilliant. They arrived today, I opened the package followed the instructions. You have to set these up through your computer but every time I inserted it into my usb port my mac crashed. With not winning with using it with my mac I thought I'll try it on my Dads windows 7 pc. The software for it installed, but when the RC-5 was plugged into the USB port the software couldn't detect the RC-5 being connected. Windows did try to find the drivers but didn't succeed. I've sent them back for a refund, but very disappointed.

Absolute Bargain
Excellent product, does exactly what it says, very easy to set up and operate, the supplied software installs easily and can do whatever is needed. Just like the RC4 without the humidity sensor and no facility for a remote sensor

disc they sent with the software on it was tiny and not much use. couldnt find the software drivers needed for reading the logs anywhere. it works as a thermometer by pressing the play button whenever you like but software is needed for the log function as it doesn't just save to plaintext or something simply.

very good, once past the treathing problems
Bought this to check the temperature control of my central heating and its effectiveness at heating rooms. It is made by "Jiangsu Jingchunag Electronics Co., Ltd.""elitechstore com/temperature-data-logger-c-7/usb-temperature-data-logger-rc5-p-6.html"The first problem was removing the plastic battery cover, to insert the included battery. This was very stiff to turn, to remove. It needed a well fitting £1 coin and that had to be pressed very firmly into the slot, otherwise the slot would be damaged, so the cover could not be removed. The problem was the sticking O'ring under the battery cover, to make it water resistant. Once the cover was removed, a smear of hand cream on the O'ring then made it much easier to open and close. The end cap, over the USB plug, is also sealed with an O'ring, so presumably these loggers are water resistant against damp conditions. The software came on a small disc, 80mm diameter, so can only be installed if your computer can accept such disks. I understand the software is available online. According to the "manual", "The software or user manual could also be downloaded in our website: e-elitech dot com"Loading the software was taking forever, until I realised it was waiting to have the terms an conditions accepted. Suggest you read the terms and conditions before accepting them. They amount to two A4 pages of 12 point text.Once loaded, there was initially a bit of a problem getting it to recognise the logger, but after a few tries that problem went away. The software is relatively simple and is easy to use.It would have been better if this logger was directly accessible from Windows, like a USB memory stick, without the need for the extra software. The software can readily export data in various formats, including to Excel, but in practice I find it easier to display the data in the software, then highlight the data required and copy it, with "Ctrl C", then paste the data into Excel. Each data value is numbered and stamped with date and time. In Excel the time/date can be directly converted to a numerical value, in days. When you export the data to Excel, it does so as text, rather as numerical values, which then requires conversion to numerical values, using the VAL function. Copying the data table and then pasting that to excel avoids this problem. However once installed and operational I have found the software works very well. After starting the program, on connecting the logger, the data is automatically transferred and displayed as a graph.Performance of the temperature logger is very good, so I have since bought a second one, which allows correlation between two different measurements, such as between room temperature and external temperature. For this it is necessary to ensure the clocks in the units are synchronised, which is easily done on the setup page.As best I can tell, by comparison with various good quality thermostats, at a near constant temperature these loggers were accurate to within half a degrees Centigrade. To check the calibration it is necessary to hold the temperature constant for at least an hour, as the logger has a dominant 1st order lag, with a time constant of around 9 minutes. There also seemed to be a smaller secondary time lag, with a longer time constant, but I wasn't able to determine that. One can obtain an immediate reading by briefly pressing the start button, but at lower temperatures, around 7C, the heat from holding the logger can easily cause a 1C, or more, temperature increase, which takes about 20 minutes to die away.Comparison between the two loggers showed a steady state difference of less than 0.2C. With a sudden 15C temperature change, the difference between the two loggers was up to 1C during the transition, but the difference was back within 0.2C in less than 30 minutes. All round this temperature logger works very well, within the expected limitations. The software is quite adequate, relatively simple and is easy to use. These loggers work well and are very good value, but they have quite a slow response to changes in temperature. However, in practice, they will readily follow slowly changing temperatures that occur over an hour, or so.I am very pleased with the two I have bought. Hope they are soon available again, as I would like to get another one.
