Beyond the Code 3: Comprehension and Reasoning Skills

We love the Explode the Code series for teaching reading and has worked wonderfully for my son. So I had great hopes for the Beyond the Code series too to help with comprehension. While there are some great things about it, I don't feel this is enough to really be a full comprehension course. The stories are fun for my son and well done, and many of the questions are good, but I expected a bit more in-depth and a little more "making him think" type questions. Overall, not a bad book but could have been a bit better.

Explode the Code is a great phonic series and Beyond the Code is for the students who need a little more reinforcement. I have used these with 3rd graders and even some low 4th graders and the improvement I see in their reading is amazing! It's self-explanatory and easy to use.

Love the 'Code' series. I have the older ones and just now added the comprehension pieces. My students use them to 'warmup' on arriving to class. Builds fantastic word-attack and reading foundations.

This is a great method for teaching kids to read and write! It works very well for my kindergartener, as it did for her brother before her.

I tutor and when the children reach this point, they know most of the words,but need to learn to express comprehension of the story. This book isvery effective.

Great repetitive work for developing reading and phonics skills.

I taught my daughter to read using Explode the Code series of books, and I love how the Beyond the Code books expand that learning into reading comprehension. Worth buying!
