My go to badge and key retention
These are my go to for my keys and badge retention. Badging up to 300 times a work day it normally lasts between one to two years of service. The failure point is the Cable itself. I highly recommend going with this product for badge holders retention if you have to badge a lot at work.

Great product
This is honestly the only one my husband will use for his keys. Durable and functional, it really holds up to a lot of use and does the job well. They do eventually wear out but not before you’ve gotten your money’s worth out of them.

Seems well made and has a thicker cord with reasonable length, but needs a fix to reduce cord wear
These retracting key reels are obviously much more durable than (and about twice as large as) the cheap little ones I've gone through every 4-6 months since I've needed one for my badges. Although this only has a key ring, it's easy to add my badge clip. I like that it has a reasonably long cord length because I have to change it from my left side to the right on my belt, as others have noted, because it is only right sided. The lock definitely is helpful if you have something heavy on it, but my two badges don't need it. It's great to have enough length for me to go from my right side hip to the badge reader for the garage because the little reels had to be on my left side to have enough reach. The belt clip works very well, and I like it better than a carabiner clip because it's sturdier and more compact and doesn't require strong belt loops. I did bend the end of the belt clip a bit flatter to prevent the sharper edge to be less protruding, but this probably won't be noticed by most people. I also expect that the thicker cord will not ravel and tangle like the thin cord I've had to put up with for the cheap reels. The very thick cord should last long, but I will look for wear locations because some reviewers noted where it broke for them. I have a few ideas on how to prevent this, so I want to monitor how it wears as I use it and maybe provide an update later.[Update, 1 month] - I decided to "fix" both key reels before I used them more than a few days to check if it will delay or prevent the issues reported by several others. I used a small sharp knife and some very fine sandpaper to scrape and polish all of the sharp plastic edges that the cord might contact during extension and retraction. This included the locking knob, which required the most care not to contact the cord. It's easy to see and feel these sharp edges, and it takes 30-60 minutes of careful effort to round and polish them. This should prevent the cord from wearing with every extension and retraction, and I expect it to extend the life until the spring breaks. I did something similar to the plastic handles of a jump rope that I used weekly (~10,000 revolutions a week for my workouts), and this eliminated the wear on the cord, so I have the rope 30 years later. The polishing seems to have worked very well so far in daily use, so I'm hoping it will prevent cord wear for much longer. If you're patient, I think you can dramatically reduce the cord wear on these reels, but I would prefer that Key-Bak changed their plastic molding process so customers don't have to correct their faults.
