Designed By Patients How did you come up with the idea for this product? Emily: During my sophomore year of college, I was diagnosed with Chronic Lyme disease. When I had my first PICC line put in, I was told to protect it by wearing a cut-off sock, sleeve-like, on my arm. I’m sorry…what? A sock? On my arm? In public? Like…on dates? And I wondered: How was this ever going to fit into the carefree, collegiate lifestyle I’d imagined for myself? How could I be myself this way? What had I become? And how would I possibly flirt with that cute hockey player in my 8 am finance class?! In those days PICC nurses had little else to offer, so I became obsessed with finding a solution that looked and felt fabulous and wouldn’t come between me and my lifestyle. Thus the PICCPerfect PICC line protector was born. We quickly realized we could improve so many more lives by creating additional products designed around the same set of values. So today, we are Mighty Well — a growing line of medical accessories that put strength, confidence, and mobility back into the toolkit for spoonies and anyone else coping with a health setback. What makes your product special? PICCPerfect was designed by Emily, a PICC line patient, not my engineers in a lab or family members of a PICC patient. Best PICC line sleeve for everyday and public use.
This is best of several brands and types of sleeves that I have tried. These are for covering your PICC line (or Midline) in a more esthetically pleasing manner than surgical wound netting.What makes this brand better is that you don't need to remove the whole cover to use your line. The bottom layer has a hole or holes in it to pull your access tubes through. Then you can wrap the extension tubes (if you use them) around your arm and then you pull up the second layer to cover the lines (it just folds at the elbow).To use your PICC, just pull down the top layer so it lies over your forearm, leaving the upper arm segment in place and voilà, you have access to your PICC ports, leaving the rest discreetly and cleanly covered.These covers are also comfortable for prolonged wear (and I am very sensitive to anything restrictive or hot and sticky-feeling). Also it is easy to put on. All in all, the designer of this product really seems to understand the needs of the PICC line patient. I am grateful to them for this product that helps make easier the constant challenge of living with a tube in your veins that extends to your heart and must be kept meticulously safe and clean.
