Quick and easy
I installed this distributor along with a new carburetor on a 1965 Ford F100 with 240 straight six engine. The original set-up was the Load-A-Matic vacuum advance only distributor with the Autolite 1100 carb. I struggled with this set-up for years. The truck would start OK and run but driveability was terrible. It had no power and would often stall and did not want to restart. I wanted to replace the carb with something different but the original distributor would not work with a different carburetor. I had to replace both. I chose a Carter YFA type carburetor and this distributor. After replacing the carb and distributor it is now a different truck. This distributor is an awesome idea. The HEI design is simple and solid. You only need to hook up 1 wire and the vacuum hose. The items inside the distributor are the same as original GM parts. If you need a coil or an ignition module just tell the guy at the parts counter you have a 1978 Camaro with a straight six. I did have to modify my plug wires since the new distributor cap has male terminals and the original cap has female holes. I ordered a set of crimp on terminal ends of the proper style, cut the ends off the original wires, and crimped the new ones on. The electronic ignition is a game changer. It pisses off the purists, but I'm interested in trouble free driving more than total originality.

Great upgrade
Well worth it, huge difference in power, response and easy fast starts on my 69 F250 with a 240 motor.Update, 1 year & 3 months, completely failed, no spark, I ordered new spark wires and a tuneup kit, still no spark, mechanic says another component is most likely the problem, H e has to remove the distributor and replace the part under the housing, $ 350.00 + do do the job, Its coming out and putting the old school distributor. Disappointed, I really liked the torque and power difference.UPDATE, made contact with Southwest, they replaced the distributor within 4 days after making contact. after replacing the distributor and checking the old one, the PICKUP COIL was not working, a replacement would have solved the problem. anyways, the new distributor i s working flawlessly.

DON'T DO IT ! ! ! !
Sometimes it has power to the coil. Sometimes it doesn't.Ran a wire directly to the battery for a definite constant 12v source. Same problem. Don't do it.

Make sure to fully seat it.
This was super easy to install an to get running on my 84 F150 with the 300 6 cylinder. I installed this along with a tachometer and tach filter for HEI's just to know how many rpms I'm running. Would recommend to anyone with and older vehicle cause it brought new life to mine. Just know if you are having problems to get this to fully seat rotate the motor over by hand until it seats in the oil pump.
