PerTronix 1146A Ignitor for Delco 4 Cylinder

Installed as instructions stated...well sort of....then I had a blonde moment as I thought the diode fix that was recommended was for my engine. Initially I couldn't get it started, so I called pertronix and while the gentleman and I diagnosed the issue, I asked ....What is an OMC? He said well, thats a brand like mercruiser.....Sooo long story short, if you have a mercruiser engine don't worry about the diode fix for the ESA. Nonetheless once things were the way they should be, boat started right up a few times with no hard starting, no priming, no issues. Combined it with the flamethrower coil. Make sure you have EFI suppression wires and they are not solid core. Luckily I had those already on.

Have used these ignition kits years ago, but only recently had need to do so again on a boat engine. They work great and make the engine far more reliable. However although this one said it fitted certain models my motor had (I now know ) been modified so, it didn't fit my dizzy as the magnetic rotor would not fit the shaft. The kit was well made with good instructions and it's not the fault of the vendor that my shaft was not standard. Delivery was very quick though and I kept the kit as the pick up will make a good spare.

I installed it on a mercruiser 470 with the standard coil . Very easy install. If you have doubts ab having a ballast resistor or not, just measure the voltage at the + terminal of the coil and the ground with ignition swotch on . If there is 12 V or so, you dont have a ballast resistor.

The pertronix unit failed after only a handful of starts. Followed the instructions for wiring and used there coil as well. Was really impressed when engine started first go but unfortunately it didn't last.
