Not always a slam dunk !
A few things that you might find helpful.I bought the 1181 ignitor and the 4011 coil to upgrade my 1967 Buick Skylark. The points are hard to get to for service and I was hoping to eliminate the coil and points as potential trouble areas. What I had not anticipated was the fact that both the coil and the module require a full 12 volts which is not available since there is a resistance wire in the circuit connects to the coil. Now if your ride has a fire wall mounted resistor it is a simple matter of installing a jumper to eliminate that resistor however when you have a resistor wire in the harness some place it gets a bit more difficult. I was able to find a 20 amp fused circuit tied to the Kick Down switch which was near by. This was brought over to the coil and branched off to the module. Problem solved! Not what they did not tell me was that the coil is about 1/8 to 3/16 inch larger in diameter than the stock unit. The way the factory set these things up was to have the bolt that secures the coil bracket to the block only moderately tightens around the coil to prevent damaging it. The smaller 10-24 screw was used to actually secure the coil to the braced with out damaging the coil. To resolve the first problem I machined a small bushing (or you can stack some washers in there) to take up the slack between the mounting tabs. This turned out to be around 1/4 inch. I tested this by tightening with a nut and making sure that the coil would still move snugly inside the bracket. Next I went to the hardware store for a longer 10-24 screw which I cut down to fit since the original one was not long enough.After applying some shrink tubing to the no linger used old coil wire I was good to go. I did however order a spare module just in case!I hope this helps some one else.
