great introduction, spurs good discussions
A wonderful book to explain to kids how electricity and water get to your house. It has very engaging illustrations and mostly clear explanations. It includes a page on wastewater treatment and discusses renewable energy sources. There is a page about natural gas but it is somewhat less clear. The last page is about conserving energy and water at home. My five year old finds this book very interesting though it is a little over his head. Although it is not mentioned in the book, the topic offers an opportunity to discuss people who do not have running water, electricity, and natural gas. My son found that hard to imagine and we discussed how people in other circumstances get water, light, heat, and fire.We own two other books in this series "How Did That Get in My Lunchbox" and "Where Do My Clothes Come From" and they are also excellent.

Fantastic book.
We love every book in this series. Although this is called "How does my HOME work," it is really about household utilities such as water and electricity. My daughter especially likes the sections on water. She's really into learning about how things work. This book is appropriate for ages 3-8. The art is bright and compelling, the explanations are understandable for even very little kids, and the topic is fascinating for all ages. Can't wait to see what they come out with next-- I hope it is either about manufacturing of everyday items or how homes are constructed.

EXCELLENT book for Inquisitive Minds!
My 3/4yo grandson adores this book. It is hard to find solid, accurate books on a/c, electrical, plumbing and gas systems for kids! This is a must-buy if your child has an analytical, engineering-type of mind and wants to know how things work.

Engaging and well illustrated.
Such a perfect book for our son, who as it turns out, prefers non fiction! Our son is always asking about how things in the house work; and is enamored with cords and plumbing and this kept his interest so much more than Winnie the Pooh or Ferdinand. This is a book that will get our son to read. It’s engaging and illustrated really well.

Great source of practical information!!!
Someone should have given me this book years ago!!!’ Discover energy systems that make our homes function. The colorful illustrations help one to understand such home basics as water systems and electricity. Besides children, it would make a humorous gift for first-time homeowners too!!!

Basic and fun imagery of how our home works!
My 3 year old and I love this book! We do a lot of home DIY projects, so he’s all about understanding how things work. Illustrations were perfect for him to follow the pipes and wires, looking for more like this!

Very cool illustrations and I even learn things from it
My son absolutely loves this book. He is 3 so I thought he would be maybe a bit too young for it. We had it from the library, spent all of our renewals, and finally I broke down and bought him his own copy. Very cool illustrations and I even learn things from it!
