Ideal for Homeschooling and Revision

I purchased this for my son who is in year 2. I was struggling to get him to engage with homeschooling during lockdown as the volume of work from school seemed overwhelming. This book has been really useful and he has enjoyed completing a page each day. It's helping to keep what he has learned at school fresh in his mind. Great as a refresher.

Seems more complicated than other year 2 books

Bit mixed feeling on this book as it seems to be much harder than the other year 2 maths books we have. Also, 5 minutes is way too short for quite a bit of questions and my little one has certainly never come close to doing it within 10 minutes let alone 5.However, it is good in the sense that it reinforces learning through asking tons and tons of practice questions.

Good

Very good and useful for 6 years with a lot of exercises.

Expanded lessons for my 4 year old

My Son has enjoyed starting this book as he is over developed in maths. It has helped to provide much harder questions for him to tackle.

Will be difficult for many six year olds.....

I hoped this work book would be good practice for our 6 year old grandson. He likes maths and his school reports say he is competent and doing well.I looked at the book before using it with him. The problems are presented in very clear print and each section consists of three parts with a timing target. There is a Warm-up Activity (1 min), Rapid Calculation (2.5 min) and a Challenge (1.5min). Some of these activities are really quite difficult – especially in a timed situation. My husband and I are both ex-teachers and we were thrown by the Challenge section on page 5! A younger family member put us straight…..Our grandson had a go at a few pages but did not cope with being timed. When I next suggested going back to the work book he replied “No, thank you”.I notice the authors and editors of this book are Chinese – perhaps Chinese children are much more able and quicker at maths. There are plenty of good ideas in this book but it needs to be used carefully or the child could be discouraged and put off maths.
