Fed is best
Any breastfeeding book that's first chapter starts with breast is best is not a good book in my opinion. The entire book shames mom's for formula feeding and supplementing.

Good book, horrible formatting.
I'm 8 months pregnant, so I haven't gotten to use the information yet. It seems to contain a LOT of good info.My low review is for the lazy, careless way this book was converted to e-book format. It's quite clear that no one at the publishing company read through the book as an ebook. There are incomplete words all over the place to the point where it is sometimes difficult to understand. Even worse, the formatting is TERRIBLE. The charts that pop up every now and then are basically unuseable, even if you zoom out as far as possible. I've read this book on a Kindle Paperwhite (gen 2), a Kindle Fire (gen 1), and a Nexus 7 (gen 2). Same poor reading experience on all of them. It's like reading something from a bad indie publisher. Extremely disappointed with this e-book.If the publisher updates it, I'll be more than happy to update my review.

The best!
This is the only breastfeeding book you will ever need! It covers every single issue that could possibly come up. I gift it to every new mama.

Amazing book!! Dr. Sears hits a homerun again!!
I love love love this book!! As a first time mom I read this book from the beginning of my pregnancy. I was so determined to be successful in breastfeeding. I learned so much my mommy friends were coming to ME for breastfeeding advice BEFORE I had my baby!! And found the advice successful! My son was latched and nursing 2 hours after my c-section. Because of the advice in this book, I learned to latch him every hour, and I give this book the credit for my milk coming in 24 hours after my son's birth!! I handled my engorgement according to the book's instructions and my engorgement only lasted a couple days! My son is 8 weeks old and to this day has never had formula! I'm so grateful to the Sears family for publishing this book! I absolutely recommend it to anyone who wants to breastfeed or is currently breastfeeding.

Loving this book
Pregnant with my 2nd. My first is 10 and we had a lot of breastfeeding issues. This book has definitely seemed helpful in preparing.

Excellent book!!
This book is priceless. It is very informative and very useful. I credit this book with a huge part of my success breast feeding my son. He is 6 months old and has been exclusively breast fed. The section explaining what a proper latch is is extremely important for a first time Mom. If the baby latches correctly from the start, then your nipples won't get hurt and you are a lot more likely to be successful breast feeding. It explains how to maintain your supply. It also explains storage and shelf life of breast milk. I highly recommend this book! It has been invaluable!

Loaded with information!
This book was a huge help to me when I had my daughter who turned out a preemie. Good thing I’d already been reading this book throughout my pregnancy.

VERBOSE
I didn't even finish this book as I couldn't handle the repetitive nature. What could be said in one paragraph is repeated in different ways to cover multiple pages -- I get it, breast is best, which is why I'm reading this book to begin with. You don't have to preach. There is some helpful information about latching, etc, but the amount of useful tidbits and guidance has thus far has been minimal compared to the total length of the book. Being pregnant with my first child I was looking for more information about how to breastfeed successfully and how to identify cues to establish a good routine, not why I should and why I'll be a failure if I don't.Mostly, I could handle the information provided if I didn't feel like it was repeated over and over. I work better with straightforward, to the point information, not droning on and on without getting to the point. It was way too verbose for my liking -- definitely quantity of quality!

Attachment Parenting Style
I was gifted with the Attachment Parenting book of this series, the parents / health professionals who wrote these books have continued this style of parenting through this book, I felt this matched my outlook & personality regarding parenting style these books reassures & affirms my instincts as well as reminds how to simplify the needs, while also gaining knowledge and facts, I wish more Midwives & Health Vistors read these books it certainly could help them be less biased & encourage a different view to some areas where they discourage or frown upon due to statistics / numbers plus in my ongoing experience I found these books have been clearer & truer then when I have been advised in past. If you feel Attachment parenting fits your personality and lifestyle then the books by this couple are perfect.

Good advice but only when taken with a pinch of salt
I breastfed my daugther for more than 2 years, and never dreamt of offering her a drop of formula. This was mainly because I was determined for her to receive the benefits of breastmilk uncompromised, but partly because I was traumatised by this book. For those who aren't familiar with different parenting methods out there be warned: the Sears' are EXTREME proponents for attachment parenting techniques, and this book is 30% practical breastfeeding advice and 70% attachement parenting propaganda. Why should chapters on co-sleeping and baby-wearing belong in a BF book? I happen to endorse this method, but was still annoyed by how much this book rubbed that doctrine in my face.I certainly found this book a useful resource to have on hand throughout my BF journey, but would have preferred less brainwashing and more information; when I had problems with PPD, latch-on, nipple thrush and pumping at work the information offered in this book was insufficient. However, when an expert child nutrionist informed me after my daughter's first birthday that I should wean her off of night feeds the influence of this book was enough to make me stupidly defy her for months.

Helpful. Most important tip is that baby needs to take as much of the breast in its mouth as possible, and message your breasts in between feeds to keep milk moving in the ducts (keep this in mind and save some money ;)

Another fantastic book by the Sears!
I read this book when I was experiencing a few difficulties breastfeeding when my son was only seven weeks old. The advice was so sensible and sensitive. My baby is now six months old and I am planning to still be breastfeeding when he is one. I have found it an invaluable source of advice throughout the past months as it answers questions on positioning, diet, demand-feeding, allergies, winding etc. This is a "must-have" book for any new mother who is planning to breastfeed.
