I used it to cut plugs of St Augustine grass in heavy clay soil. It cut the plugs reliably and easily. The clay mucked up the device as it does every shovel or spade I've ever used here, especially when I tried to make holes in the bare spots. Removing the cut plugs from the top of the device was easy except for the bottom one or two that were stuck in the cutter due to the clay.

This tool is very effective and definitely a better solution than bending over to create holes for planting.

I can pick up 10 dirt plugs, drop them at the location where I want to take grass plugs from, then pick up 10 grass plugs and dump them at the dirt holes, put them in the holes and then go back and fill the empty holes with the dirt plugs. Rinse and repeat. I definitely would buy again. Awesome product, I was leary at first because it looked too simple. Buy it, it’s 10 stars

Works well unless you have rocky soil. Even small gravel in the soil will bend the teeth and eventually break them. The blade can be easily removed, but I can't find a replacement.

I bought many planter and this one is the best so far.1. Steel blade will not peel like others powder coated2. You can collect multiple without pick up each one, speed up your lawn care process.

Definitely does not cut a 2” plug as the cutter measures 1 2/4” ! I must not have a Chinese ruler?Also the plugs don’t just fall out, you have to use something to push them out like a piece of plastic pipe or a wooden dowel.This one will be returned !
